Insurance Plans Made Simple
Many dental insurance companies contract with dentists to become part of their "panel" of providers. This is often referred to as a network provider or PPO provider, preferred provider, contracted provider, etc.. All of these terms mean the dentist has agreed with the insurance company that he will legally obligate himself to accept the insurance company's fees for his services. These fees are usually deeply discounted from the dentist's normal fees. Any dentist can voluntarily agree with a patient that he will accept the patient's insurance company's fees even if the dentist is not obligated to do so.
